Lecture August 29
At the end of August Marieke was invited to give a lecture and presentation about her work at Shiv Nadar University, Noida, Delhi, India.
Stressing the traditional teaching method and suggesting a different structure based on open discussion with the class she involved the students to reflect about the relation between politics and art practice.
The process started introducing contemporary highlight issues, such as for example: Uruguay’s president Jose Mujica; “The Power of the powerless” by Vaclov Havel; “End of leadership” by Barbara Kellerman; the Gezi park protest, at Taksim square in Istanbul and “Time of outrage!” a political essay by Stéphane Hessel.
Marieke shared with the class her main investigation subjects based on the relationship between leadership and followers in changing times. During the last twenty years an increasing numbers of action and new ideologies have started to create the feeling of a new growing and significance consciousness from human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human meekness and human responsibility. (Havel, Speech of October 1989, accepting a peace prize)
The role of Art reflects this need of change in daily actions, independent from politicians and government and the necessity to create a strong dialogue with the time in which we’re living. In this way opportunities arise to take on a shared responsibility.
