Artist statement

After years of international and community-based projects, my practice has entered a new phase in the Netherlands, focusing on painting as a personal and reflective medium. While the form has shifted, I continue to explore changing viewpoints and perspectives through color, light, and shadow.

I work in short, intense sessions, often on larger canvases that allow me to fully immerse myself in the process. Being alone in sometimes overwhelming landscapes — the dunes near my home or scenes encountered while traveling — gives me a sense of rootedness, presence, and power. Nature has become both my refuge and source of expression, sustaining my autonomy as a single mother with limited time. Through mark-making, vibrant color compositions, and the inversion of light and dark, I translate this combination of power and vulnerability onto the canvas.

Inspired by the Fauves, I use bright, expressive brushstrokes to capture emotion and fleeting moments of presence. My work conveys both the intensity of personal experience and the transformative power of nature, inviting viewers to see the world — and themselves — in a new way. Feminism is central to this practice: by transforming the challenges of motherhood into a creative and empowering act, I aim to encourage other women to assert their independence and continue expressing themselves.
