house of revelation

performance/ installation

up and down back and forth, maumau, istanbul, turkey, 2013

With the presentation House of Revelation, I created a 'living installation’, an intervention, where performances took place throughout different floors of the building, in combination with exhibiting paintings.

Each floor symbolized a layer of the society and referred to how politics, media and government are related to each other. In several rooms different people were playing a ‘role’.

The public could walk through the rooms and listen to the conversations, but do not interfere with. In one of the rooms six 'politicians' were invited to dine extensively. The men were served delicacies food while the crowd moved through the rooms. The conversations of the 'politicians' emphasized the conflict of traditional values opposed to the need for gradual change in the socio-political system in Turkey.

This presentation was made few months before the outburst of Gezi protests.

House of Revelation, was partly funded by ECF, Step Byond.
